Trevi Fountain and Rome's Many Piazzas

Friday, December 30, 2016 - After touring Vatican City, we came back to the other side of the Tiber River and walked the many, many streets and piazzas of Rome. We started at Trevi Fountain with its replica of Las Vegas' Trevi Fountain - just kidding. Las Vegas has the replica. Rome has the original.

Trevi Fountain is really pretty. Our problem was that we caught it in the middle of the day when all of the other tourists were there, too. We should have waited until much later or gone early in the morning. Still, Trevi Fountain is a beautiful work of art designed by Nicola Salvi and finished in 1762.

Leaving the fountain, we headed west down Via delle Muratte for about three blocks and came across a chocolate shop - Venchi Cioccolato. While this shop had plenty of chocolate treats, it also had a wall of flowing chocolate! Pretty amazing to see. Its just like something out of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Here is a short video of Momma, Troy and I in-line to get hot chocolate.

We got our hot chocolate drinks that smelled delicious, but I have to warn you - they are not quite like what we are used to back in the United States. Their hot chocolate is exactly that - melted hot chocolate. I think we mix ours with more milk to thin it out. Troy and I tried a few sips and could not finish them. It was good to try (and maybe we were supposed to mix it with something at a side table someplace in the shop), but probably will not try it again unless we learn that it is supposed to be mixed with something. I think we saw the same thing in Switzerland on another trip.

I'm not sure which route we took after Venchi, but you can hardly go wrong as long as you have a general idea of where your hotel is located. We got back to our hotel well after dark and were ready for bed. The next day was our last full day in Rome and we planned to tour Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum and celebrate New Year's Eve with Romans. Here's how that worked out...
